SECTION 15 10.

No. 1.

Mr. Max Müller to Sir Edward Grey.-(Received April 23.)

[13986]

(No. 86.) (Telegraphic.) P.

BURMAH frontier.

Peking, April 23, 1910.

With reference to my telegram No. 83 of yesterday's date, I have received the following telegram from His Majesty's consul at Tengyueh, sent from Tengkeng by messenger on the 19th instant :---

"I arrived at Tengkeng to-day, and found Magistrate of Paoshan with large escort. On orders received fifteen days ago he was about to go to Pienma. A peaceful settlement of the question would in my opinion he rendered considerably more difficult if the Chinese party advance now, and there is not a little excitement among the tribesmen. I am enlisting the influence of His Majesty's consul-general. at Yunnan-fu with the Viceroy to prevent the range being crossed by anyone, and I have got the magistrate to promise not to start till he receives further instructions."
